REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR CONSULTANCY

SERVICES FOR TULINDE TUSOME PROJECT

Plan has been working in Kenya since 1982. Plan Kenya’s country goal is transformed institutions and societies that respect and fulfill rights of all children in Kenya. We are seeking for services of a consultant to undertake a gender equality and child protection analysis study in Kilifi and Kwale Counties for the a 5-year project, designed to improve access to protective and quality school and community environments for children, particularly vulnerable girls and boys, in Kwale and Kilifi Counties.

Objectives of the analysis:

To document gaps in the gender equality and child protection mechanisms, systems and context, influencing factors underlying those gaps, submit actionable recommendations to address the gaps

Key assessment questions:

1.     Establish the existing gender inequalities in primary and secondary education in Kwale and Kilifi counties including the specific factors underlying these inequalities?

2.     Establish the existing formal, informal and self-initiated child protection mechanisms, systems, and structures serving both in community and in schools in Kwale and Kilifi counties

3.     Identify the gaps in the existing mechanisms and systems

4.     Assess the role of School related gender based violence (SRGBV)1 and harmful traditional practices in girls’ and boys’ ability to access their rights to education and protection?

5.     Identify the gender-based barriers to birth registration and the impacts of these barriers on women and men’s access to birth registration services and consequently birth registration of girls and boys?
